Throwback Thursdays: My First Time in Tokyo   Leave a comment

This is the first of a series of “throwback thursday” posts, where I will share pictures from the past, in no particular order. The first time I went to Tokyo was pretty amazing in terms of the size of the city, the lights, the people and the places I saw. Depending on the photo, i’ll give a little bit of backstory. All these photos were taken with a Nikon D40, with the kit lens! I suggest clicking on the pictures to see the larger, sharper resolution versions. Enjoy and please comment!

throwbakthur101The first thing I saw coming into Tokyo was the tower. Awesome feeling.

throwbakthur103I can’t state how overwhelming it was to be at the Shibuya crossing. To see so many thousands of people just roaming about was interesting to say the least.

throwbakthur104Here’s a cool little game you can play. Can you count all the people looking at the camera as I took the picture?

throwbakthur108This is a  nighttime shot taken in Shinjuku. My friend and I did the “Shinjuku hustle”. Basically we went to an internet Cafe where you can pay 300 yen per hour to use internet. We chilled there for a bit, put our stuff in a locker and then came back in the morning and crashed for the same price. Cheap accomodations!

throwbakthur123That isn’t a mannequin. Well Batman is a mannequin, but the Power Ranger rocking the purple afro was quite human.

This last picture is of me in the bus heading back to where I lived (before eventually moving to Tokyo). Of course if you want to get deeper into Tokyo, you can checkout my Tokyo based novel, Naked As The Day to dive deeper into  the city of lights.

Sex, Drugs and Jerk Chicken GCaribbean Magazine Feature   Leave a comment

Two great things happened recently. One, my novel “Sex, Drugs and Jerk Chicken” was featured on the cover of the second issue of GCaribbean magazine, and two, my article (“Are you a Tony?“) relating to one of the characters in the book was released online. (The editorial is printed in the magazine). Please read the article and let me know your thoughts. The title is plain to see on the magazine 🙂

Weddy Wednesday + More   Leave a comment

I’m chatting to not one, but four girls from poland. In the group are two Kashas, a Veronica, a Corneilia, and a Johanna. This is at what I felt was the end of a good night. I’d already passed through two places (Medusas and Plus 8’s pepperseed party) but somehow I ended up at Weddy Wednesday with two people hanging out. So i’m chatting to people i’ve seen around town, and also a few jacket clad women. I snap a picture with two of them.

mawed05

I haven’t been to Weddy in a while, but usually when I pass through, i keep to myself, buy a drink or two, and just listen to the music. This time, upon seeing Wee Pow (founder of Stone Love) I requested a picture. Little did I know this would be the theme for the night.

mawed04

I briefly went to another event and ended up snapping pictures with Lexxus a.k.a Mr. Lex,  John Hype (legendary local dancer), Chi Ching Ching (up and coming dancehall artiste) and the also legendary Labba Labba a super old school dancer who was STILL dancing at the event. It was cool passing through and catching the vibe. Junior Gong was somewhere around as well, but i didn’t feel adventurous enough to try and get a picture with him.

Smile Jamaica + Two Thousand MORE teen   Leave a comment

I was pleased to be on the first Smile Weekend TV show of the year. I chatted about trends I saw developing around town, including the growing EDM (Electronic Dance Music) scene here, cool eateries and new establishments popping up plus my take on new fashion trends. It was a nice vibe, and a nice time!

SKRILLEX + MAJOR LAZER IN KINGSTON   Leave a comment

majorlazer-JA-2013a

The recent Major Lazer + Skrillex party held here in Jamaica took it for me this christmas. I’m a huge fan of electronic music, and I got my money’s worth despite the fact that getting inside was a nightmare and it was billed as an all-inclusive event but getting drinks was equally a nightmare. This however, was all swept under the rug because of the sheer awesomeness of the Skrillex performance and a few innovative concert moves by Diplo and the crew. That said, here are a few pictures I snapped with my phone.

As I said, the line to go in was insane. Took about 45 minutes just to get access to the party AND I had my ticket.

majorlaze03

They were checking IDs like whoa, but I think they were really trying to curb the use of Mollie at the concert (which I heard was heavily in stock lol)majorlaze28

I came in around the time Chromatix was playing, about an hour or so before Skrillex ripped Kingston a new one.

majorlaze05

Skrillex came on in true superstar style, with a massive DJ deck that served as a screen for projected images.

majorlaze17

The Nyan Nyan cat made an appearance!

majorlaze18

NOTE: I do NOT know this girl. This is a picture perfect photo bomb.

majorlaze13

Skrillex took the concert, because the level of presentation was above and beyond what Major Lazer did, but it was still pretty awesome when Diplo did his crowd surfing via huge air bubble move.

majorlaze20

cheers to the future of such concerts in Jamaica! Below is a picture of me at the concert with some guys I know, taken by a proper nice, shiny camera. Pink Afghan!
